The economic and financial crimes commission (EFCC) south south zone had to explain to protesting youths, the reasons they arrested Barr. Alabh George Turner.
The EFCC south south zonal headquarters, yesterday arrested Barr Alabh George Turner, amidst protesters, who had refused him to be apprehended. But with the explanations of zonal head, Ishaq Salihu, the youths were made to drop their placards for the law to take it’s cause and justice served. No matter how good they claim Tuner was.
According to the EFCC south south zonal head, amongst other evidences against Barr. Alabh George Turner’s financial crimes is the billions of naira hidden in the suspect’s 5yr old daughter’s bank account, including the billions discovered in the accounts of several companies, allegedly owned by him.
And some of these companies were mentioned by EFCC, to include as follows : (1) kilo Creek petroleum development company. (2) Geoham telecoms Nig. Ltd. (3) Adaka-Bro marine services Ltd. (4) Turn oil Ltd.(5) Turner Nig. Ltd. (6) Turner Global services Ltd. (7) El-Godams global services. (8) Yenegoa mall Ltd. (9) sugerland integrated farm ltd. (10)Celtic price of agriculture and conservative camp. The EFCC south south zonal boss said in all, non of these companies has a variably contact address.
To further prove, the commission has evidence to show how, the suspect collected the contract, to build Ogbia Brotherhood village, with full contract sum paid to him, but ended up renovating the town hall.
Mr. Ishaq Salihu, the EFCC south south zonal head narrated how in 2014, money was given to Barr. Alabh George Turner, to organise the ”Niger Delta Peace carnival” instead, he diverted the fund, and merely arranged for a ”Good luck Jonathan’s cup”, which competition was for only ogbia people. And did not go round to other parts of Niger Delta.
The EFCC boss said, there are sufficient evidence with the NDDC, to show that the suspect had collected a lot of money, in the name of organising programs for Niger Delta youths, which didn’t happen anywhere. He added that, Barr. Tuner had in the recent past collected the rural electrification contract, from kolo to Ogbia, which he later abandoned, and never brought any form of light to the people.
On the aspect of Niger Delta volunteers fund, Barr Alabh George Turner cheated. Instead of paying to beneficiaries, the sum of #150,000:00, he fraudulently paid #70,000:00 only to 2000,beneficiaries
For these reasons, the EFCC south south zonal Head, Ishaq Salihu called on the youths to always trade with caution. He asked them not to settle themselves with the crumbs they gain from politicians, rather they should question their source of income, as many politicians nowadays, live above means.. It’s important to state that for the period Barr. Alabh George Turner worked as S.A to 2 former MDs in NDDC, his earning was not More than #30million, Salihu stated. And youths abandoned their placards.
The king of Opobo kingdom, in Rivers state, HRM. Dr. Dandeson Douglas Jaja, who doubles as both, the chairman Rivers state traditional rulers council, and the state community policing committee ( SCAC ) has promised to contribute at his best, to see that community policing is successful in Rivers state.
King. Dr. Jaja made this declaration on the visit of the Rivers state commissioner of police to his palace. He thanked CP. Joseph. G. Muktan psc. for finding time to pay a visit to Opobo kingdom and his palace.
The state commissioner of police, who was accompanied with DCP. Yomi Oladimeji (DC Admin), and DCP. Adamu Abubakar (DC Operations) congratulated HRM. Dr. Dandeson Douglas on his appointment as CoChairmen of the state community policing advisory committee ( SCAC ) in Rivers state. CP. Muktan, on behalf of Inspector General of Police, IGP. Mohammed Abubakar Adamu commended the king, for honouring the inaugural session of the SCAC at the state Government House.
The CP said the community policing initiative of IGP is an interventionist approach, to breach the gap between the police and community. The state commissioner of police, CP. Joseph Muktan Called for the support of traditional rulers in the state, to community policing.
As fund for elections violence victims in Akuko Toru LGA.
Patronising party supporters with government fund is questionable and corrupt.
In order, not to create injustice, and promote violence, Government is advised to be more transparent about, the four hundred and fifty million naira (#450,000,000:00), set aside to compensate the victims of elections violence in Rivers state.
As an NGO, compensating the victims of 2019 general elections violence is most commendable and kind of a government.
However, we, the Community AntiGraft Initiative ( C.A-G.I. ) call on the Rivers state government to publish the names of victims and beneficiaries of the elections violence victims’ fund in Akuko Toru LGA.
As anti corruption practitioners, C.A-G.I demands to know, how much is estimated for each of the victims. And, to ensure that the beneficiaries are not party members.
It’s difficult to count a local government area in Rivers state, during the 2019 general elections, where violence did not occur and victims recorded.
So, Rivers people would want to know why, it is Akuko Toru, and not Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA that would benefit against other 22 LGAs in the state.
The public is interested to know how these victims were affected to collect that huge amount of money.
It’s by sharing these information, that we could help justify this good will to the people against all frauds.
You can not achieve the purpose of ” community policing ”, if you don’t consider the effect of corruption on community violence and insecurity, that scare investors from the state.
In most communities, corruption has caused more violence than crime. It is easier to mediate and control farmers and headers conflict, than reduce extortion ( matching grand ) and economic sabotage.
To complement the efforts of ” community policing ” in our domain, there is need to name, shame and stigmatise perpetrators of certain corrupt behaviors and practices in our community, that increase violence and scare investors. E.g. (1) extortion of contractors handling community development projects . ( 2) manipulation and conflicts in CDC’s and community youth elections. (3) corruption and capture of corporate/community investment contracts by powerful community stakeholders.
It is important to note that crimes like cultism, oil theft/ pipeline vandalism have long thrived due to Graft. Community cult groups sustain their activities through extortion, while the oil thieves take advantage of the corrupt community institutions to sabotage the nation’s economy. In policing the community, stop the corruption now.
A non governmental organization ( NGO ) , the Community AntiGraft Initiative has commended the Rivers state Government, for the appointment of HRM king Douglas Dandeson JaJa, as the chairman of community policing advisory committee ( SCPAC ) Rivers state.
C.A-G.I ( the community AntiGraft Initiative ) describes His Majesty’s appointment, as a ”brilliant idea” to support community policing. King Douglas Dandeson JaJa, the Amayanabo of Opobo has demonstrated quite number of reforms in the Rivers state traditional rulers council, which today has brought the government closer to the communities.
The role of traditional rulers in response to Covid-19 pandemic, in the state has further explained the confidence reposed in his Majesty’s abilities to deliver on this assignment. At least every community had a team to prevent the spread of corona virus in their domain under his chairmanship.
As a grassroots based NGO, the community AntiGraft Initiative ( C.A-G.I.) urged the Rivers state community policing advisory committee, to consider setting up a community transparency and accountability group, in other to avoid fraud and sabotage of the system.
The only thing capable of destroying CPC ( community policing committee ) anywhere is corruption. Stop corruption, save our community says C.A-G.I.
Following the allegations of the executive Governor of Rivers state, that the DC issued unauthorized permits to oil company workers in exchange for money.
The community AntiGraft Initiative ( C.A-G.I ) has said it was wrong for the deputy commissioner of police in Rivers state, to be mentioned as a sabotage to Rivers government efforts on COVID-19 pandemic.
And, looking at the facts of it, such statement forms the grounds for a Case of bribery and corruption, which requires thorough investigation.
sabotage is an act of corrupt practice, if established. It’s important to know that, the only thing that can erode the process of fighting COVID-19 in any state is corruption. So, no suspicion or allegations of corrupt practices during COVID-19 pandemic should be left unabated.
We call on the police to always apply high-level of professionalism in dealing with the state, on enforcement of COVID-19 executive orders, so that, the image of the police will not be bastardized.
The president of the NGO, comrade Uche Odungweru commended the efforts of traditional rulers and community leaders in enforcing the lockdown of ObioAkpor and port Harcourt city. And hailed the residents for complying to government directives.
A non govermental organization,( NGO), the Community AntiGraft Initiative ( C.A-G.I ) sincerely appreciate His Excellency, chief. Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike , and the Rivers state Government for engaging tradtraditional rulers in the fight against Covid-19.
In other to control the spread of corona virus in the local government areas, the state Governor addressed the royalties, to take upon themselves, the task of preventing the spread of the virus in their communities.
He charged them to ensure that markets and shops in their areas are lockdown. The Governor advised them, to encourage their wards to observe social distancing and obey the Government ”stay at hone” order.
The president of community AntiGraft Initiative ( C.A-G.I. ), comrade Uche Odungweru, however calls on the Royal Fathers to show integrity and ensure transparency and accountability are used to assess their roles. He urged them to be prepared to defend themselves against any questions on their areas of assignment.
